Biography


British baritone Jack Lee made his professional debut at the Wiener Staatsoper in October 2022. As a member of the Staatsoper’s Opernstudio, he sang in over fifty performances during the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons. His roles included Sebastian in The Tempest, Bello in La Fanciulla del West, Pietro Fléville in Andrea Chénier, Marchese d’Obigny in La Traviata, and Konrad Nachtigall in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Jack performed in the 2024 Salzburger Festspiele, singing the role of Der König in Carl Orff’s Die Kluge. Starting in the 2024/25 season, Jack will join the ensemble of the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, where his roles will include Figaro in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Der Prinz von Mantua in Offenbach’s Fantasio.

Jack is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied under the tutelage of Giles Underwood and Chad Vindin. While in London, his operatic roles included Peter Besenbinder in Hansel and Gretel for British Youth Opera, Ramiro in L’Heure Espagnole and Mr. Gedge in Albert Herring for Royal Academy Opera. In demand on the concert platform, Jack’s repertoire includes Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony, Stanford’s Songs of the Fleet, Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, and Orff’s Carmina Burana. He has also participated in many masterclasses with eminent singers and conductors including Brigitte Fassbaender, Alexander Soddy, Étienne Dupuis, Simon Keenlyside, and Joyce DiDonato.
